Monocabin Retreat

Rhodes, Greece

Originally conceived as a prefabricated modular home by Mandalaki Studio and manufactured in Italy, Monocabin M can now be experienced as a fully realized 30m² architectural retreat in Rhodes. Located just steps from the sea in Ialyssos, on the northern coast of the island, it explores a more essential way of inhabiting space through thoughtful architecture, natural materials, and a seamless connection between indoors and outdoors.

Conceived for slower rhythms and everyday simplicity, Monocabin Retreat offers a refined interpretation of island living, where design, privacy, and quiet comfort come together in a setting shaped by the philosophy that less can offer more. An original Halo light installation by Mandalaki Studio completes the experience, creating a distinctive atmosphere after sunset.

Exterior

Living the outdoor

The outdoor space is conceived as a natural extension of the retreat. Entirely private and enclosed, it is shaped around moments of rest, gathering, and connection with the outdoors.

Beneath a shaded pergola, a dedicated dining area invites long lunches, sunset aperitivi, and evenings spent beneath the open sky. A landscape of Rhodian pebbles, Mediterranean planting, and carefully considered lighting creates a distinctive atmosphere throughout the day and into the evening.

At its center, a plunge pool offers a place to cool off and unwind, while the surrounding spaces encourage slower rhythms and quiet moments outdoors.

Shaped by light, texture, and simplicity, the exterior offers a private setting where architecture and outdoor living exist in quiet balance. Entirely private and thoughtfully designed, the retreat provides a sense of privacy and calm throughout the stay.

Interior

Shape by design

Conceived for two, the interior is organized as a bright and open living environment where every element serves a purpose. Custom designed furniture by Mandalaki Studio contributes to a cohesive spatial identity, where architecture, furnishings, and everyday objects are conceived as part of a single design language.

Natural light moves through the retreat throughout the day, extending across carefully considered materials and a restrained palette of finishes. Large openings dissolve the boundary between indoors and outdoors, creating a continuous dialogue with the surrounding landscape and allowing the rhythms of island life to become part of the living experience.

The result is a space shaped by simplicity, comfort, and thoughtful design, where less becomes an opportunity to focus on what matters most.
